Photographing this newborn family with a brand new, precious, magical little baby, after I have one of my own, is a totally different experience than it was before. My ideas about what is meaningful, what matters the most, have changed so fully. I was able to find it documenting Henry and his beautiful newborn family. I feel so honored to get to take these images of such a timeless moment in this family’s life. Henry was named after his grandfather and he has been told before that he looks like a wise little old man. Those searching eyes that are centuries old, carrying with them the genes of grandpa, and everyone else who came before. What a joy to get to be the photographer, the one whose job is to watch it and see it, and then share the smallest moments with such a loving family. Will little Henry one day share these images with little great, great mini Henry, once he actually is a wise old man? These pictures of little Henry watching his mom, so carefully, blurry eyes but searching for the loving mama who carried him so far. Somewhere between, I can’t actually see you, but I can hazy find you, I know you, you and I were the same cells last week. A so, so sad older sister, who is also overjoyed and is feeling the grand momentum of a new life, who still is a few weeks away from understanding that she has been gifted a new best friend for life, a baby brother. His little perfectly formed hands, searching for big fingers to hold, the feeling of bright window light filtering through eyes and onto new skin. How fragile these few early weeks are, how holy, how grand and how enormous. What big, big love. Henry is here!
